Look for one that has a wide belt which when set at an incline position will still be comfortable and easy to both walk and run on. Another major feature that your treadmill should have and which most now come with is a safety cut off mechanism. This mechanism usually consists of a key with a rope attached to it. The key then slots into the machine and if at any time it becomes removed the treadmill will stop automatically preventing any kind of damage or injury to the person using it.

The Elliptical Trainer

Of all the pieces of fitness equipment we are looking at in this article the elliptical trainer provides not just a comfortable way to exercise but also does not place as much pressure on the bones in their body. The other big benefit to be gained from using this piece of exercise equipment over say a treadmill is it is very easy to understand and use so even some one who is a complete novice will have no difficulty using it. All the elliptical trainers you can now purchase for the home are designed to allow you to increase the intensity of the workouts you do on them so this means as you get fitter you won't be prevented for increasing how much resistance is being placed on your muscles as you work them.

Stationary Exercise Bikes

Not only does this piece of equipment take up very little space it also is a much more comfortable way to exercise compared to either using a treadmill or elliptical trainer. Of all the pieces of equipment mentioned in this article the stationary bicycle is the ideal piece of equipment for those of you who have led some what sedentary lives so far and have now realized how important being fit and healthy is.

However now we take a look at one more piece which will not only help you to get back into shape but can be used in the comfort of your own home as well as being the cheapest to purchase.

Exercise Ball

Although these have been growing in popularity in gyms they can also be used in the comfort of your own home. Although many people believe that this form of exercise equipment is relatively new in fact they have been around since the 1960's. It was during the 1960's that exercise balls were used to help children who suffered from muscular dystrophy in order to improve their balance problems, but they have also been found to be beneficial to others as well.
