Does your Car Require a New Exhaust System?

By: Warren Scott

If you are the same as me, then you dislike car repairs. Naturally I enjoy using my car, and would not discontinue driving regardless of how much I have to do to maintain it. Probably the most detectable problems with your automobile is when your muffler has worn out. Even the people driving on the expressway know when you need a new muffler.

Buying a new muffler can be like going to the dentist. It is not like getting a new paint job, or new tires that maybe make the car look nicer. Therefore we don't like spending money on it. Lets look at a few options to getting the most for your money while buying your next exhaust system.

If you are a "do it your-self" sort of person then you can do a couple of things to check the system for a quick fixing. One time I actually took two soup cans and bent them around the pipe where it was rusted. I would not propose you do that. Trust me it is just a waste of time. Needless to say, that was the last time I attempted to fix my muffler on my own.

Replace it all. - Due to the fact that the whole exhaust system consists of three pieces it is possible that only one section is needed changed. From my experience I would propose that you go ahead and replace the whole unit. It is much easier that way, and most likely if one piece needs to be changed then the other two will need to be changed in the near future as well.

Which muffler is most beneficial for you? I'm no different then anyone else. I try to get the most for my money without paying for a bunch of extras that are not necessary. What I commonly do is speak to the experts. Unless you are buying a Chrome-plated muffler for your exotic car, a middle of the line exhaust should suite your needs just fine. When you go this route, you get the best for you money and a good quality muffler system at the same time.

Do it yourself, or take it to the repairman? I have done both and unless you have a nice garage with the ample tools I would take it to the exhaust professionals. I have hammered on those pipes with dirt, and rust getting in my eyes to many times. Also, many times there is a guarantee on your exhaust system when it is installed professionally.

Overall changing your exhaust is a pretty painless event and can many times be done in a few short hours. So, the next time that you notice that your car is sounding louder then normal, take it in and get the exhaust exchanged. Why drive around for weeks with unnecessary noise.

If you are looking for a performance exhaust system or even an exotic one you might consider buying something used. You can find many Chrome mufflers for high end sports cars at reasonable prices online very easily. Check it out at http://autoaccessoriessite.com
