Although your relationship between you and your family lawyer is professional, learning why they decided to become a family lawyer can tell you a lot about their feelings on family matters and what kind of representation you're going to get in your case.
5. How long have you been a family lawyer? Everyone gets their experience by someone giving them their first break and hiring them. Unless it's someone you really trust, you don't want to be their first client. Make sure your family lawyer has a lot of practice and experience in family law cases.
6. Have you handled cases like mine before? There are many different matters that are handled by a family lawyer. You want a family lawyer that is experienced in family matters similar to your case. The more experience they have, the better your chances will be in your case.
7. How do you feel you can help me and my family in this case? Lawyers may not always want to explain all their strategies to their clients but ask him how he thinks he can help you and what his goals and expectations are in your case.
8. Ask about his/her family. Your relationship with your family lawyer is professional, but most lawyers with a family will not mind answering simple questions like how many children, ages, etc. A family lawyer that has a family is usually going to be more sympathetic and caring in family law matters.
