By: Gene Schwerman

Rancho Santa Fe, CA Real Estate is a story worth knowing. The Santa Fe Land Company acquired the original Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Real Estate in 1906. As the Santa Fe Land Company was owned by the Santa Fe Railway, it was decided that the land would be planted with Eucalyptus trees as it was thought they would be ideal for making railroad ties.

As it turned out, however, eucalyptus trees were a very happy mistake as they were not suitable for making railway ties at all and thus, the Rancho Santa Fe, Real Estate was given over to the Rancho Santa Fe Land Improvement Company for the development of a small town with lots of orchard acreage.

The idea was to eventually increase freight in the form of fruit and produce shipments for the Santa Fe Railway. So the original Rancho Santa Fe, CA, homes for sale, were built for the modest aspirations of families setting up orchards. These were beautiful rolling hills but certainly not Beverly Hills.

Then, several important things and two very important things happened. First, Lillian Rice, famous San Diego Architect, built what would become the town centerpiece, the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, which complimented and made famous her Spanish Colonial Revival style of architecture. The Inn was situated on a knoll overlooking Spanish Colonial Revival style residences at the western end of Rancho Santa Fe's main street that Rice also built and she proceeded to intersperse her impressive designs throughout the town.

Then, Robert Trent Jones II built The Bridges, an exclusive enclave community of homes surrounding his beautiful The Bridges Championship golf course. All of this nestled into some of the most lush acreage in the rolling hills of San Diego County and eventually property values spiraled.

Rancho Santa Fe, homes for sale, have increased in value over time as it became ever more obvious that Rancho Santa Fe real estate provides the ambiance and spacious planned communities with plenty of options for fully custom homes that California residents sought. Californians came to Rancho Santa Fe comparing the offerings there with endless other Southern, CA areas and again and again they would settle on Rancho Santa Fe, Real Estate.

These homes slowly became more and more exclusive such that only the very wealthy could aspire to own them, and as they still provide the close access to the ocean, the nation's most perfect climate and entertainment only Southern California can offer, the more Rancho Santa Fe, homes for sale that came available the greater the demand became as well. In the 2000 census Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Real Estate reached way beyond it's humble beginnings as Rancho Santa Fe was named as the nation's wealthiest community!
