  • How To Make The Most Of Your Disability
A lifetime ago, I was living in Washington, D.C., working in corporate America, waking up at 6 am, rushing with my coffee while I brushed my teeth and put on my pinstripe suit and yellow power tie, and drove to work, arriving before rush hour. Then came more anxiety for rest of the night, usually a sleepless one.
  • Eco-Friendly Business: Psychic & Financial Rewards
Starting an "earth-friendly" business is not always as easy as it seems. I felt it would be an easy challenge for me, seeing that I had launched one of Mississippi's first health food stores. The Internet was still Arapnet and only used by the government, blogs didn't exist, and social networking meant handing out business cards. I paid high rent in a mall across from the local university. The local townsfolk felt I might be possessed to believe that natural products might be better than what could be bought at the local general market.
  • A Fisherman's (Funny) Nightmare
As a middle aged man, approaching minnowpause, a good many folks think I'm mentally eel. My theory though is that I've haddock with life, not unlike Salmon Rushdie or Marlin Brando. Mahi oh mahi. Since I've always marched to a different drummer, you know, or sang like Tuna Turner. I live down on squid roe. and been a shad bit egocentric, people have tried desperately to save my sole. Holy mackerel, if I could count the times. Those bassturds. They just perch up on their high seahorse and talk down to me as if I'm pond scum. So what's it all about, Algae? You may think I'm shellfish and cruel but read between the line, or bass hook, or swivel.
  • 7 Steps Of Internet Success Using No Gurus, Ebooks Or Expenses
You worked hard for your money for a decade or two. Maybe three. Suddenly your company downsized, or you were fired, or your health declined. In any case, you found yourself no longer employed, yet still have the same bills. Aside from your ego reduced to the size of a molecule, you feel confused, bitter, and sometimes hopeless.
  • Bono of U2 Helped Me Launch My Eco-Friendly Business
The debt I owe Bono (of the band U2) and his wife Ali a tremendous thank you for helping me launch my business will probably never even be known by both of them. But I know the good they did for me, and that is what counts. I am keenly aware of they are doing for the planet, with Edun Organics is not only a business they launched, of organic cotton textiles to make eco-friendly clothing, but (at the risk of sounding overly-dramatic) a gift to humanity.
  • Five Good Reasons To Shop Online Early For The Holidays
    1. Comparing Prices: Common sense tells us that one can get a much better price on virtually any retail product in the "off-season" which runs generally from mid-May through the end of August. Prices can be as low as 80% of their regular prices (even regular discounted prices) during the rough and tumble "finding just about whatever is left" during the holidays at inflated prices.
  • And You Thought Becoming Famous Was Hard? Think Again!
Last night I turned on a cable news program. I was busy in the kitchen and couldn't see the screen but I heard a voice that I remembered always sent chills down my spine. I walked into the living room and sure enough, staring me in the face, swastika on forehead, was Charles Manson and a news reporter. It was a bit spooky.
  • Environmental Awareness Is Mainstream
In the early 1970's, while living in rural Mississippi, I remember hearing my mother speak of a woman who had had incurable cancer, given chemotherapy, and sent home to die by her oncologist. She allegedly took an herb for several years and the cancer went into remission. Of course, I was skeptical, until I met the woman, then in her seventies, and appeared a picture of health. This started my quest at the nearby library, which did not offer much, to read about a more natural way of living.
  • When Old Hippies Go Green
My loved ones know I'm going green and they worry at me. They really shouldn't. It is the right thing to do. Besides this is really not my first time to improve my quality of life. I started recycling many years ago, and other than taking organic vitamins and trying my best to eat natural foods, but that was about as much as I felt I could do at the time.
  • Learning To Laugh
There are numerous reasons why we laugh and use humor in our lives. This impulse goes way back to the prehistoric days (I have read). Since that was a few years before my time (but unfortunately not too many years before my time), I will have to take archaeologists word for this phenomena. I remember loving to laugh as a child. My mom was the "sense of humor proprietor" of our home, and making her laugh, was especially fun, as she was a tough audience. Especially when I was in trouble, which was a majority of the time.
  • Eco-Friendly Retailers Now More Mainstream Than Non-Greenies
As I predicted in an article several years ago, retailers, including the big guys, have gone eco-friendly. I saw it coming. I wrote about it. And, of course, it is a welcome change. The Ralph's, Targets and Sams Clubs of the world, most likely, will never go fully earth-friendly, and merely offer sections in their stores rather than become another Trader Joe's but that's alright. It's a very good sign.
  • Laughter And Cardiovascular Health
We all know that laughter is the best medicine. If not the best, certainly good for you. Scientific studies have shown that mental stress can restrict blood flow to the heart. But now a study has linked laughter to increased blood circulation. Laughter appears to cause the tissue inside blood vessels to expand. Medical science feels that laughter may be important to increase cardiovascular health.
  • Probably The World's Only Roy Orbison Cartoon
In 1998, I was one year into my Londons Times Cartoon project. I was still living, working, and trying to survive in an abandoned rural Mississippi warehouse. Nobody would rent to me as they, I am certain, felt this former 9-5 business executive had lost his mind for launching a cartoon at age forty three. I was a year into the project. Not a lot was going right, I could clearly see it was a hobby, and I would eventually need to take some kind of job in sales, but for now, I was obsessed with seeing it through. Then a marketing idea hit me, which, at the time, I thought was brilliant (I humbly add). I would create another series of cartoons called "Panel Hollywood" and feature real life celebrity caricatures and then mail signed copies directly to them or to their agent to forward. Out of the 150 or so that we created and mailed, about twelve responded, and even offered reviews, which was my strategy. Their reviews of the work remain on my main cartoon website.
  • The Internet Revolution: 1969-Present
Needless to say, we have just gotten past, successfully, without destroying our country, with north and south against each other, as we did in the Civil War, another "Industrial Revolution". No, not exactly like the experience of our forefathers and mothers, but we have gotten through and are right "in the thick" of the Technology (Especially IT...Internet Technology) Revolution. Remember, that paper thing thrown at your door? Oh, sure. It was called a newspaper. Some people still read that bulky item known as a newspaper. I suppose it is out of habit and loyalty.
  • Your Immune System & Laughter
Is humor mandatory in our lives? How important is it to laugh now and again? For many years, we knew humor was fun, and laughter made us feel better, but we didn't know the full story. Recent studies at University Of Md. Medical School point towards laughter being not just important, but pertinent to our health, job, relationships. Like jogging or walking, laughter produces very similar endorphins that help preserve our immune system. More research shows that it even may help in the brain functioning better.
  • How Bad Do We Need To Laugh
Do we really need humor? How important is laughter in our lives? For many years, we knew humor was fun, and laughter made us feel better, but we didn't know the full story. Recent studies at University Of Md. Medical School point towards laughter being not just important, but pertinent to our health, job and relationships.
  • Pets Can't Afford Lawyers So They Have Us
Our babies with fur (dogs and cats) can't afford attorneys so we have to be theirs. Much has been written about the B.A.R.F. diet , but still very little studies behind it. I happen to know it works as I almost had my 12 year old stray mutt put to sleep in 1996, at age twelve, at the vet's suggestion, but decided to research a bit more myself before making such an important decision. He lived another 10 years and finally passed last November at age twenty-two, vet-free, except to the very part of his life when his heart was failing. He died smiling at home, in my arms.

  • Societal Issues: Killer Cows
I'm a bovine author. Name is Truman Cowpoke and I write mooder mysteries. I write about the life of cows, violence, and yes, even bovine death. Words cannot express the horror I feel, as a mystery writer of true cow crime while researching the death and destruction that can occur in "greener pastures". Of course there are no cowincidences and anyone who says there are may just be udderly silly and full of b.s.
  • Increase The Quality Of Life Of Your Dog Or Cat 100-Fold
Since our pets cannot afford lawyers so we have to be their advocates. Much has been discussed regarding the B.A.R.F. diet for pets, but still very little research behind it. I happen to know it works as I almost had my 12 year old stray mutt put to sleep in 1996, at age 12, at the veterinarian's suggestion, but decided to research a bit more myself before making such an important decision. He lived another 10 years (to age 22), vet-free, except to the very part of his happy life. He was an amazing creature, and the b.a.r.f. diet, and a lot of love and attention provided for that.
  • The Cow Mafia
My name is Truman Cowpoke and I write mooooder mysteries. I write about the life of cows, violence, and yes, even bovine death. Words cannot express the horror I feel, as a mystery writer of true cow crime while researching the death and destruction that can occur in "greener pastures". Of course there are no cowincidences and anyone who says there are may just be full of bull, surely udderly ridiculous.
  • Want Anxiety Relief: Adopt A Dog Or Cat Today!
We are facing a big issue here in America. Unwanted and stray cats and dogs. I believe a great deal of this is due to lack of education, not a lack of caring. Some cities and municipalities put a lot of funding behind spaying and neutering education. Many communities have no-kill shelters, and a lot of other good is being done. But more can be done. The amount of strays is epidemic in the U.S and does not seem to be getting better. We can do better.
  • What Sam Walton Knew That You Should Know
Please Buy From Me Wal-mart founder Sam Walton and I walk together. Not literally but geographically and in spirit. No, I'm not in Sam's league by any means, but I, geographically walk down the same streets, paths, fish in the same fishing spots, and other activities. You see, Sam Walton and his family grew up down the road from where I now live, in the Ouchata Mountains of Arkansas. There may not be a more beautiful place on the planet. It has been my happy home since 1999.
  • Rick London On Cartooning
Since I launched my cartoon business a decade ago, many have asked me how to get into cartooning, or some similar artistic endeavor, especially if, like me, art is not their strongest skill. Before I entered "the trade", I too, was curious about how a number seemed to "sneak in" these so called "glamour-fields" and many were no better artists than me, and I am no Picasso.
  • What Motivations Motivate You To Buy?
Do you know what motivates you to buy? Would you believe emotions play a major part/ Whether it is a vacation to Hawaii, or even Galveston, a brand new Lexus, or perhaps a used Toyota, or a Gucci bag or a nice slightly used but gently worn sweater from the local Goodwill, emotions played a big factor.
